Dear Falcon Families,

I hope students had a great second week of school. Reminder that there is no school tomorrow, September 4th due to the Labor Day holiday. Our Fall Open House is this Thursday, September 7th. I’ve included a schedule below with parking details as well. Parking is always tough during Open House so I recommend you come early or carpool if possible. We look forward to seeing you all on campus. See below for the latest updates as of 9-3-23.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

SRHS School Committees and Parent Volunteers

School Site Council (SSC) meetings and Site Governance Team (SGT) meetings are held via Zoom on the first Tuesday of each month. SSC is held from 3:45 - 4:15pm and SGT is held from 4:15 - 4:45pm. SSC oversees the implementation, monitoring, and revision of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), including reviewing and analyzing data; consulting with advisory groups; evaluating programs and activities; and allocating the expenditure of funds available to the school through categorical programs. SGT oversees the instructional program, implementation of new services, and bell schedule. This year, we have three parent vacancies for SSC and one parent vacancy for SGT.  Please complete this Google Form: SRHS School Committees and Parent Volunteers if you are interested in being a part of one or both of these committees. I will take the names submitted for SSC and SGT and create an electronic ballot to be sent out for both SSC and SGT elections.

SR6 (Saturday Support)

SR6 (Scripps Ranch 6) is an academic support available to all students. It is a 6th day of school hosted on select Saturdays for four hours. SR6 will be hosted by a certificated teacher(s) who will provide instruction and support. An SR6 link will be added to our school website where students can view the content areas of the scheduled teacher and sign up. SR6 is also an avenue for students to recover their attendance (AZTWs in PowerSchool) to remain eligible for school events.

Updated Attendance Policy & Impacts on Eligibility

To support student success in the classroom and to remain eligible for school events including homecoming events, dances, prom, and commencement, students must: 1) be present in all of their classes for the duration of the period unless excused absence verified by parent, 2) have a valid pass when out of class, 3) maintain a 2.0 citizenship score and 4) exemplify the pillars of Falcon PRIDE.

Students can regain eligibility for school events if eligibility is lost for attendance infractions. Unverified class-period absences (Powerschool code A), tardies (PowerSchool code T), or missed more than 30 minutes - unexcused (PowerSchool code W) can be recovered by attending lunch detention(s). Full-day absences (PowerSchool code A or PowerSchool code Z) can be recovered by attending SR6 hosted on select Saturdays. Any unserved detentions assigned for disciplinary reasons can be served to regain eligibility as well. Notices will be sent regularly to parents and students informing them of attendance and opportunities to recover them in order to regain eligibility. See the SRHS Student Handbook for more information.

Interested in Trying Out for Baseball in the Spring?

To all students interested in trying out for baseball in the Spring, or learning more about the baseball program, please contact Head Coach Chris Lamb at [email protected] to have your name and contact information added to the distribution list.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up - Reminder

At Scripps Ranch High, traffic during pick-up and drop-off times has been a problem since our school has “one way in and one way out.” In order to limit traffic as much as possible, we are asking parents/guardians to drop off their students in designated locations on the East Side of Falcon Way, Scripps Lake Drive, or Treena Street. See this Student Drop-Off & Pick-Up for details.

Counseling Updates - Reminder

Counselors will send weekly updates to student email accounts to make sure they are aware of important dates, information and opportunities throughout the school year. The weekly updates will also be linked to the front page of the counseling website, srhscounseling.com. Parents can click here to see this week's counseling update.

That’s all for today. Enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D

Principal
