SRHS Weekly Updates as of 10-8-23
Posted on 10/10/2023

Dear Falcon Families,

This week, Scripps Ranch High was named by the College Board as a gold member of the AP Honor Roll for the 2023-24 school year. The 3 ranking categories included college culture (gold), college credit (platinum), and college optimization (platinum). Additionally, SRHS received the AP Access Award for providing all students the chance to participate in AP, including students of underrepresented populations. Great job to all of our staff, students, and families for this amazing accomplishment.

In today’s update, I’ve included information about the LCFF data collection survey, the Federal Aid Impact Survey, the Wednesday College Series, important calendar dates for October and November, and more. See below for the latest updates as of 10-8-23.

* Please forward this message to your child’s email account so they have all the latest info.

Early Out Modified Monday, October 9th

This Monday, October 9th is a modified Monday with school ending at 2:23pm. During the 2:23 - 3:23pm time window, teachers will be either (1) offering revision/reassessments for students or (2) will be meeting with their fellow colleagues to collaborate on instructional practices. Those teachers who are offering revision/reassessment opportunities will have communicated with their students. We encourage all students who have scheduled revision/reassessment opportunities to take advantage of this time to hone their learning.

What I Wish My Parents Knew Event

Please save the date: Tuesday, November 14th from 5- 6:30pm  for our special event sponsored in partnership with the SRHS Foundation, entitled “What I Wish My Parents Knew.” You can hear firsthand issues facing our teenage students and resources available to help. The evening will feature a student panel of our very own Scripps Ranch High School students along with speakers from Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Jewish Family Service, Mental Health Outreach. The event will take place in the SRHS Library. More information to follow as the date approaches. We hope to see you there for this very powerful night.

Great CA Shakeout 10/19

The Great California ShakeOut will take place on Thursday October 19, 2023 at 10:19 a.m.

Staff and students will be practicing “drop, cover and hold” and then evacuating to the stadium to practice. Overall, the drill should take 45 min.

Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF)  - Data Collection - Distribution

Every year we are required by the State of California to collect data from our families.  This data helps to determine our Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) funding from the state. For families who have not completed the LCFF form, the form will be distributed to your student on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 during advisory. Please have them return the completed form to their advisory teacher on Thursday, October 12, 2023. As an alternative, the LCFF online form is available on the Parent Portal, and NOT on the student’s portal.  If you do not have the Access ID and Password for your student, please contact Jason Lyons at [email protected]. For help with technical issues, please contact Parent Online Support at (619) 732-1400.

Federal Aid Impact Survey - this is different than the LCFF data collection above

Please take this short electronic survey as it provides financial support for our school district since we enroll federally-connected students. This includes children of active duty uniformed services personnel, children who live on federal property or in subsidized federal housing, and children whose parents are employed on eligible federal property. Impact Aid funds become part of the district's general operating budget and support instructional activities for all students.

To complete the short survey:

  • At your next opportunity, please sign-in to the Parent Portal in PowerSchool

  • Select Forms from the left-hand navigation menu, then select 2023-24 Impact Aid Program Survey Form.

  • Follow the prompts and submit the form. Please be sure a confirmation appears before logging off.

  • If you need assistance, or do not yet have a Parent Portal account, please contact our site tech, Jason Lyons at [email protected].

  • For parents using the PowerSchool mobile app, you can submit the survey using the app.

Please complete the survey as soon as possible. Thank you!

Attendance, SR6, and Homecoming

To remain eligible for school events, including Homecoming, students cannot have any truancy codes in their PowerSchool from 9/5 forward. Truancy codes are As, Ts, Zs or Ws. Once students purchase a Homecoming Dance ticket, they must remain eligible to pick up their ticket at distribution which will occur days prior to the dance. Students can recover their attendance by attending lunch detention (Tues/Fri in Room 703) or an SR6 Saturday session on 10/14 and/or 10/21 from 8am-12pm. The sign-up for the 10/14 SR6 Saturday session is posted on students’ “Class of” Google Classroom.

Class of 2024 Photo - Reminder

The Class of 2024 will be taking their class photo in the stadium on Thursday, October 26th during Advisory.
