SRHS Weekly Updates as of 9-28-25

Happy Fall, Falcon Families!

Congratulations to our football team for the big win against Mira Mesa in the “Battle of the 15” on Friday the 19th! Our field hockey team is also in top form, winning the West Coast Classic Tournament last week. Be sure to check out our athletic page for information about schedules (go here) and then come out and cheer on our Falcons! We look forward to seeing you out there!

Our Marching Band will attend their first competition after Homecoming, and the Marching Band Falcon Invitational Tournament will be held here at Scripps Ranch on November 1st. Last Friday our AFROTC program participated in the annual MCAS field trip. As always, our students enjoyed the experience and learned a lot. For more information about our other programs (shows and competitions), visit the following links: Falcon Playhouse go HERE, Music Program (marching band in the fall) go HERE, ASB updates go HERE, and AFROTC program go HERE

Progress report grades for the first six weeks are live now in PowerSchool. Please review your students’ progress so far in the year. If you see your student(s) struggling, encourage them to communicate with their teacher and take advantage of tutoring hours and/or our SR6 (Saturday School) opportunities. If you need help getting into the Parent Portal, there are instructions below.

On October 9th, we will host our annual “What I Wish My Parents Knew” event. Please see below for information on this powerful event. Our Wednesday College Series continues; updated information below. This weekly event is open to all students. Encourage your students to take advantage of these opportunities to visit with the featured colleges. And a reminder about The College Showcase, which will be hosted on October 16th in the SRHS gym. (see below for the flyer)

Below in the reminder details, check out the opportunity for a free youth heart screening on October 5th. Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the U.S., but what most parents don’t know is that it is also a leading cause of death among youth, with up to 23,000 lost each year from a heart condition 1 in 300 have. That’s why parents are urged to register youth ages 12 to 25 for a free screening with the Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation on Sunday, October 5; go HERE for sign up information. See below a flyer about the program.

Senior families: The Yearbook Submission for Senior Baby Photos deadline is November 21st. See below for information on submitting, and for information on purchasing senior ad space before the deadline.

This week’s updates include yearbook information for seniors, the ongoing College series, the upcoming College Showcase, the Family Resource Guide, how to get to the Parent Portal, and more. Don’t forget! Homecoming is on October 10th (game) and 11th (dance). Tickets are now on sale! Please remind your students to show their school spirit and check out their Google classroom, the ASB instagram page, and our ASB website for all the fun events SRHS has to offer.

Free Heart Screening for Teens

Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the U.S., but what most parents don’t know is that it is also a leading cause of death among youth, with up to 23,000 lost each year from a heart condition 1 in 300 have. That’s why parents are urged to register youth ages 12 to 25 for a free screening with the Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation on Sunday, October 5. Visit https://epsavealife.org/get-screened/

The American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology published a scientific statement earlier this year recognizing EKGs as the most effective tool for identifying potentially fatal heart abnormalities that can cause sudden cardiac arrest. But EKGs are yet part of standard checkups or sports physicals, the Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation offers EKG screening for free. Register youth ages 12 to 25 for their next event in our community on Sunday, October 5 at Hoover High School. It’s quick, painless and could save a life.  Visit https://epsavealife.org/get-screened/

The Eric Paredes Save A Life Foundation will host a free youth heart screening for ages 12 to 25 on Sunday, October 5 at Hoover High School. Screenings include a cardiac risk assessment, EKG, consultation with a physician, and if indicated, a limited echocardiogram to find the 1 in 300 youth at risk for sudden cardiac arrest from an undetected heart condition. Screening participants also get a hands-on demonstration of what to do in a cardiac emergency by using CPR and an AED. Register at https://epsavealife.org/get-screened/

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up - Reminder

At Scripps Ranch High, during pick-up and drop-off times has been a problem since our school has “one way in and one way out.” In order to limit traffic as much as possible, we are asking parents/guardians to drop off their students in designated locations on the East Side of Falcon Way, Scripps Lake Drive, or Treena Street. See this Student Drop-Off & Pick-Up for details. Please do not park along any curbs that are painted red in front of the theatre or at the top of Falcon Way; these are to be kept open in case of emergency. View these Traffic Safety Tips for drivers and students from SDUSD.

Attendance Procedure Updates - Reminder

To streamline our attendance process, all student absences should be reported using the new Early Release Request form and Absence/Late Arrival Notification form. Submissions will only be received when sent using the parent/guardian email address on file in PowerSchool. Please do not leave voicemails for your students’ absences. Absences reported via the Google Form allow for blue slips to be completed promptly. Our attendance clerk assignments have changed this year. If you have questions about your students’ attendance:

All information regarding attendance can be found on the attendance website and pages 12-16 in the student handbook.

That’s all for today. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D

Principal
