SRHS Weekly Updates as of 11-10-24
Posted on 11/10/2024

Dear Falcon Families,

We hope you are enjoying the three day weekend so far (no school on Monday, due to the Veterans Day holiday). If you are interested, here’s a link to the History of Veterans Day. Be sure to reach out and thank a Veteran for their service tomorrow! This week marks two weeks remaining until Thanksgiving break, which will begin on 11/25. When we return from break, we will have three weeks until winter break with our finals week starting 12/16. The end of semester 1 is 12/20.

CIF playoffs and championships are wrapping up and our student athletes have represented the Falcon legacy with pride and skill; many of our fall teams advanced to semi finals or playoff games and matches. Congratulations to the Girls’ Varsity Cross Country team on winning the Western League Championships and to the Boys’ team for placing second. Congratulations to all our fall sports teams and their CIF participation! Please check out srfalcons.org for info about dates, locations, and all other SRHS athletics information, including scores and pictures.

In October the Federal Impact Aid Survey opened in the Parent Portal. The district has also provided pre-populated paper forms for each student. These yellow forms were handed out in your students’ period 3 classes this past week. If your family has already filled out the form in the Parent Portal, there is no need to submit the paper. If you have not submitted the form, however, please complete the yellow form and have your student return it to their teacher as soon as possible. All forms are due by November 15.

As we approach the Thanksgiving break, please remind your students to check their grades and take advantage of any opportunities to improve by talking to their teachers and taking advantage of tutoring resources. Students should also check their grade level Google Classroom for updates and stay connected with the ASB Instagram page for event details and upcoming deadlines. In this week’s announcements, please check out details about the last Wednesday College Series for the semester, our upcoming lockdown drill, and the Federal Impact Survey.

Lockdown Drill

We will have a Lock Down Drill on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 during 4th period. Students and staff will practice closing and locking all doors and staff will test using their radios. I will send out a reminder the day before on November 18th, the day of (November 19th) just before it begins, and I will send out notification once the drill concludes. We will also be very clear with students that this is a drill so as to minimize any fears or worries.

Counseling Updates

  • On Friday, November 8th, all students were required to submit their articulation card to their English teacher and input the course requests for next year in PowerSchool. If a student did not submit their articulation card on Friday, they can still give it to their counselor on Tuesday. If a student did not submit their electronic requests, then a counselor will manually add the classes based on what the card says. Students will be meeting one on one with counselors during English class in December and January.

  • Summer School information was emailed to parents and students on Tuesday, November 5th. Please review the email for dates and locations. There will be no Math or Spanish acceleration classes offered in the district this summer to high school students.

SR6 is also an avenue for students to recover their attendance (AZTWs in PowerSchool) to remain eligible for school events. Additional opportunities for academic support and attendance recovery are available as well and can be found on student’s Google Classroom. View Semester One SR6 Dates.

Federal Impact Aid Survey - Reminder

It is that time of the year to help our school secure critical funding by completing the Federal Impact Aid form.  We are asking ALL families to complete the brief form by using one of the two options described below to help us qualify for funding.  Please note that all information provided will be treated confidentially. Impact Aid funds are designated to assist school districts that enroll federally connected students. In San Diego Unified, many students are federally connected based on where they live or where their parents work.  Impact Aid funds become part of the district’s general operating budget and support instructional activities for ALL students.

HOW:

Option 1 (preferred)

Complete the form through the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

  • Login at https://powerschool.sandi.net/

  • Select Forms from the left-hand navigation menu, then select 2024-25 Impact Aid Survey.

  • Follow the prompts and submit the form.  Please be sure a confirmation appears before logging off.

  • If you do not yet have a parent Portal account, contact Jason Lyons ([email protected]).

Option 2

Paper forms will also be distributed by our school the last week of October (If you have previously completed the form in PowerSchool, you do not need to complete the paper form).  Please sign, date and return the form to our school by November 15, 2024.
