SRHS Weekly Updates as of 1-12-25
Posted on 01/13/2025

Dear Falcon Families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and getting back into your routines has gone smoothly. This week we started the first week of our second semester and our Falcons returned to campus ready to work! January has some exciting events in store for our Falcon community, including a multitude of athletic events (see visit srfalcons.org for all details, and then come join us to cheer on our Falcons!), and a visit from the Air Force Concert Band on January 29th. Winter Formal tickets went on sale this week, and rehearsals continue for the upcoming musical, Gypsy (see details on the Falcon Playhouse webpage: falconplayhouse.com

As we begin the second semester, please remind your students to start strong and communicate with their teachers as soon as they feel themselves beginning to struggle in a course. Remind students to ask teachers about tutoring time, visit our peer tutors on campus, and check out our SR6 (Saturday School) schedule for opportunities to get extra help with their academic work.

As always, please remind your students to check their grade level Google Classroom for updates and stay connected with the ASB Instagram page for event details and upcoming deadlines; this is especially important for seniors as end of the year deadlines will begin to appear quickly in these last few months of high school.

In this week’s announcements, please check out details and reminders about the 2025-2026 School Year Calendar, Extended Day classes, Winter Formal Dance details, E-Bike Education opportunity, an attendance reminder and more.

Calendar for the 2025-26 School Year -  Reminder

For the 2025-26 school year:

  • Kick off will occur the week of July 28th - more details will be out after the New Year

  • School will begin on Monday, August 11th.

  • Semester 1 finals will be the week of December 15th.

  • Semester 2 finals will be the week of May 25th, seniors the week of May 18th.

  • Last day of school next year is May 28th

  • Most likely graduation for next school year will be on May 28th as well.

We understand that families often plan events, trips, and vacations well in advance. To support your student’s success, please schedule vacations outside of our finals weeks. Missing finals requires students to make arrangements with their teachers after grades close, which creates challenges for both staff and students and could hinder their success.

Extended Day Classes: 1st session of second semester begins Tuesday, 1/13                This semester we are offering three different sessions of extended day courses for remediation. These courses are for students who earned a D or F in a required course for graduation. The subjects we will offer are Math, Spanish, Science, Social Science and English. We will also offer a Bullets of Truth extended day course for all current students in the class of 2025 & 2026 who have not met the ethnic studies graduation requirement. The first session will run from 1/13/25 - 2/13/25 and we will offer Math (Integrated Math 1,2,3), Spanish (1,2,3 and 4) and Bullets of Truth. This week, students received a message with exact times and dates for the course they signed up for and students can now view enrollment in PowerSchool. If your student needs to remediate Math or Spanish and they are not enrolled be sure they see their counselor on Monday, 1/13 to ensure enrollment. Students who need Bullets of Truth for the graduation requirement will be automatically enrolled in the course. Please mark your calendars for the upcoming sessions if your student requires remediation. Science and Social Science will be offered beginning 2/18/25 through 3/28/25 and English courses will be offered 4/7/25 through 5/29/25. As these dates approach parents and students will receive information on how to sign up for the specific courses being offered.

Winter Formal Dance Ticket Sales - Reminder

This year’s Winter Formal Dance will be Saturday, February 8th from 7:30 - 10:30pm at SeaWorld. Tickets went on sale Friday, January 10th during lunch. On Monday, tickets are on sale for $90 both in person and online. Starting Tuesday, January 14th, tickets will be $95. The ticket is a great deal as students get a chance to ride the rides in the park for a few hours, get a catered dinner, and get to enjoy the dance with their friends. Purchase early so you can join in on the fun.

Counseling Updates

To start the new year we welcomed a new counseling secretary to the Falcon Family, Janay Brown. If you need to reach Mrs. Brown, her contact information can be found on the counseling website.

This week (starting 1/13/25), counselors will be meeting one on one with current 10th grade students during their English class to discuss their course selection for next year. Counselors will be meeting with current 11th grade students the following week (starting 1/21/25).

Universal Form - Reminder

Effective with the 2024-2025 school year the district is requiring that the Universal Form, which is included in the Facts for Parents Booklet, be completed online.  Although you may have completed the Universal Form via hard copy, it also needs to be completed online in Parent Portal.

Why is this form important to complete/update for your student and Scripps Ranch High School?

  • The form allows parents/guardians to submit Photo/Video/Media Release information (This will provide us with permission to include your student in the yearbook – without your permission, we cannot include their photo.)

  • Please pay close attention to the options on box #2 – Photography/Video/Media Release.  Choosing the LAST option “I do not want my child’s name, photo or video published publicly” INCLUDES the school yearbook.

  • Technology/Network Acceptable Use information

  • Acknowledge the Restorative Discipline Plan and Policy

Steps for completing the Universal Form

1. Sign into your Parent Portal account.
2. Click Forms.
3. Select a language preference by selecting the gearbox in the upper right corner and choose a preferred language.
4. Click Universal Form.
5. Complete the form, sign and submit.

If you do not have access to Parent Portal, please complete this form: Scripps Ranch HS Parent Portal Access Request

The Universal Form should be completed in the Parent Portal by January 31, 2025.

E-Bike Education Opportunity - Reminder

Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla serves as the designated trauma center for the North County and coastal regions. Over the past several years, they have observed a significant rise in serious and life-changing injuries due to e-bike crashes. These injuries impact not only the riders but also their families and our community as a whole.

Because e-bikes can reach speeds of 20, 25, 28, or even 45 mph or more. Their increased speed, weight, and unique handling characteristics require specific knowledge and skills to operate safely. In response, the Scripps Health Injury Prevention Program has partnered with the American Bicycling Education Association (ABEA) to pilot a comprehensive e-bike safety curriculum tailored for teen riders.

And, thanks to grant funding from the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, we are able to offer this essential online course for free (normally $34.95) to all San Diego County teens and their families. If you would like to review the course, you can access it through this free demo link: go HERE

What’s included in the course:

  1. Battery safety, brake inspection, and bike security

  2. Safety equipment and proper helmet use

  3. Rules of movement and traffic laws

  4. Road and bikeway navigation (lines, signs, and signals)

  5. Crash prevention techniques

  6. Speed, stopping distance, and emergency maneuvers

  7. Communication skills for safe group riding

Bullying/Report a Concern Link - Reminder

For instances of bullying or to report a concern, please use this Bullying Report Link; the link is also posted at the very bottom of our school website. You will then select “Report Bullying.” The very first question asks “Is your concern about the conduct of an employee?”  If the answer is yes, it will direct you to a different form. Prior to filing a report, we ask that you review the district’s best practices for resolving concerns, which starts at addressing the concern directly at the site level. Once reports are submitted they are received by the district’s Office of Investigations, Compliance & Accountability (ICA). A member of their team will reach out to you to confirm receipt and ask any pertinent questions. Ultimately the report will be directed to the site-level authority for resolution.

Attendance Reminder

Students with AZWs or more than three Ts will be ineligible for school activities and events. Seniors with AZWs or more than three Ts will be ineligible for senior privileges including prom and the senior graduation ceremony. Attendance will not start over at the semester. Students will remain accountable for all truancy codes (AZWs) and any more than three tardies per semester, from 8/26/24 onward.  Opportunities for attendance recovery and academic support can be found here.

SR6 - Semester Two
Our next session will be held January 25th with Ms. Francisco (English) and Ms. Roberts (math and PE). View all Semester Two SR6 Dates. SR6 (Scripps Ranch 6) is an academic support available to all students. It is a 6th day of school hosted on select Saturdays for four hours, 8am-12pm. SR6 will be hosted by a certificated teacher(s) who will provide instruction and support. A breakfast and lunch meal is available for all students attending SR6 at no charge. SR6 is also an avenue for students to recover their attendance (AZTWs in PowerSchool) to remain eligible for school events.

That’s all for today. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Sincerely,

Matt Lawson, Ed.D

Principal
